An important moment was the recognition that all the doodling I’d done over the course of my life meant something to me. I realised I am unhappy when I don’t create.
At the end of 2011 I completed my Diploma of Visual Art (Painting) at Chisholm Institute. Since then I’ve put on two solo exhibitions, one joint, been a part of many group shows and had stuff commissioned in NYC, Italy and Mexico.
I believe in the innate human creative spirit. The better we get at disconnecting from our conscious mind, the better we are at communicating our raw emotion and personal experiences. This to me is what makes an artist great, and is my ultimate aspiration - to demolish all walls which hold me back from a direct connection to my creative spirit.
I remind myself ceaselessly that we will all revert back to the void someday, and use that as inspiration to create and understand my own mythology. The ultimate truth 'we are born and we die' should inspire us all to constantly do better.
I am an escapist at heart. Nothing gets me more excited than exploring and becoming lost, be it in Art, Spotify or the Mojave Desert.
Ashleigh Darq was born and raised on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia.
In 2008, she studied Printing & Graphic Arts at RMIT TAFE which led to a job in graphic design with a landscape company. This only seemed to reinforce her suspicion that she was not comfortable in an office environment.
Eventually she dove headfirst into a 2 year Diploma of Visual Arts with Chisholm TAFE in 2010, completed end of 2011.
Since then she has put on 3 shows, and been apart of numerous group exhibitions.
Currently she is working on her third solo show, due 2019.
